The Hoopa AmeriCorps on Native Lands Program is service-oriented,
catering to the needs of our local community. With a focus on the
environment, our program serves the Hoopa
Valley through projects that strengthen and beautify our home. We
assist our local businesses
and tribal entities as well as our revered
elders. A commitment of 1700 hours is required to complete this
program whereupon the member will become eligible to receive an education
award worth $4775. A living stipend is provided throughout the ten
and one-half months of service. This program is non-residential, therefore,
housing must be secured before committing. Developing service-minded
membership is a priority for our program. Trainings ranging from small-engine
safety and repair, to swift-water rescue, to first-aid/CPR all build
skill and further the experience gained by each member thus propelling
them into meaningful employment or careers. Applications can be obtained
either online at www.americorps.org
or by stopping at our offices located on the old BIA campus, across
from TEPA. Two letters of reference as
well as a personal statement are required.
