Tribal Court Spokesperson Training
Training provided by Jo Ann Coleman former Tribal Court Attorney. The training occurred on May 19th, 2003, and it provided infomation on the court process and the repsonsibilities of a spokesperson for Hoopa Valley Tribal Court. We will be offering the same training 3 more times to the public, this training was made possible by BJA grant.

Program Project Title:
Bureau of Justice Assistance Tribal Court Assistance Program

The U.S. Department of Justice awarded the Hoopa Valley Tribe $100,000 to expand its existing Tribal Court operations and develop a Unified Family Tribal Court which will enable the court to resolve all judicial proceedings involving children and families in a single court. The court proposes to expand the court's resources, to develop and facilitate an interdisciplinary planning team, and to create a judicial system incorporating traditional laws. The product of this eighteen-month project will be written tribal codes that both govern and define the tribe's new family court.

Program Project Title:
Juvenile Drug Court Planning Grant

The Drug Courts Program awarded the Hoopa Valley Tribe $30,000 to create a tribal juvenile drug court that is based on traditional concepts of healing, accountability, rehabilitation and restitution. The court would assign a Drug Court Planning Team comprised of eight individuals who would be responsible for traveling to and attending three Drug Court training workshops.

Bureau of Justice Assistance Tribal Courts Program

The U.S. Department of Justice awarded the Hoopa Valley Tribe $90,000 to create an internal case management program, and to conduct community outreach and training.
