Greetings. Please be advised that the Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) will begin releasing additional Trinity River water from Lewiston Reservoir starting Sunday, August 1, and continuing through August 4. Attached is the tentative flow schedule, which will be followed by a Public Service announcement sometime within the next day. Hopefully, this action will follow with a robust Klamath Fall Augmentation Release (FARs) for fall chinook fish passage in lower Klamath River beginning as early as August 15 if they follow their EIS. We also greatly appreciate the Hoopa Valley Tribal Fisheries Department for their hard work on these efforts.

Trinity River Change Order issued by the Bureau of Reclamation:

Due to the outbreak of columnaris disease in the Trinity River Spring Salmon Run. The emergency flow increase will begin the ramp-up to 750 CFS on Saturday night (see graph). Please take extra precautions due to varying releases on the Trinity River.

The coarse schedule for the pulse flow is as follows.

  • This 3-day pulse is intended to afford suitable migratory temperatures for adult spring-run salmon holding in limited thermal refugia of the lower Trinity River due to extreme drought and evidence of widespread Columnaris (gill rot) infections.
  • The pulse flow will commence on August 1 at 0001 hrs.  Flows will ramp up to 750 cfs immediately from Lewiston Dam and remain at this level for 24 hours.
  • On August 2 at 0001 hrs, flow will be reduced to 650 cfs and continue for 48 hours.
  • On August 4 at 0001 hrs, the flow will be reduced to base flow of 450 cfs.
