Hoopa Forest Industries (HFI) is the Hoopa Valley Tribe’s log harvesting operation; a chartered company in operation since 1996. There are generally between 2-4 timber sales prepared annually to meet the Tribe’s allowable timber cut for each fiscal year. HFI practices environmentally safe forest management practices to harvest primarily Douglas Fir, Hardwood Oak, and Madrone. In 2006, a sawmill operation was introduced and made possible with Federal and State grant funding. The sawmill has expanded to include several portable sawmills that make it possible to provide high-grade wood products to local markets including larger lumber mills in Oregon and California. Hoopa Forest Industries has been a long-standing economic leader of the Hoopa Valley Indian Reservation and provides jobs that support approximately 25 to 30 Tribal Member households on the reservation and within the local surrounding communities.
