Hoopa Valley Tribe Announces Transition to 32-Hour Work Week Beginning December 1st

Hoopa, CA — Beginning December 1st, the Hoopa Valley Tribe will implement its new 32-Hour Work Week schedule for Tribal government employees. As part of this transition, the Main Tribal Office will be closed every Friday until further notice.

This change reflects the Tribe’s ongoing efforts to support employee well-being, enhance productivity, and modernize workplace practices while continuing to provide reliable services to the community.

Under the new schedule, most Tribal government departments and staff will transition to a four-day work week, operating Monday through Thursday during regular business hours.

Departments Not Included in the 32-Hour Schedule

The following departments will continue operating under their regular schedules due to essential service needs:

  • Transfer Station

  • Hoopa Forest Industries (HFI)

  • ROADS

  • Mini Mart

  • Hoopa Shopping Center

  • Tribal Police Department

Pending Decision

  • K’ima:w Medical Center has not yet determined whether it will adopt the 32-hour work week and is still reviewing the change.


LPA Process & Public Comment Opportunities

The proposed Title 30 Personnel Policies & Procedures amendments, which include the 32-Hour Work Week updates, are currently moving through the Legislative Procedures Act (LPA) process. Tribal Members, departments, and entities are encouraged to review these proposed changes and prepare comments for the upcoming public hearing.

A Public Hearing will be held on December 9, 2025, at 5:30 PM in the Neighborhood Facilities within the Council Chambers. Tribal Members will be able to provide comments and feedback before final approval. Written comments must be submitted by December 10, 2025, at 5:00 PM, with final approval scheduled for December 18, 2025.


Community members are encouraged to plan their visits, appointments, and communications with Tribal offices accordingly. The Tribe will continue to monitor the program and provide updates as needed.
